The third eye of Shiva is known for its fierce heat and Manmadhan was burnt to ashes. Seeing this his wife Rathi fainted. The heat was so much that even the Devas who were watching the whole episode could not withstand. They prayed to Shiva to save the worlds from this heat and so Shiva cooled down and asked them what is their need this time. The Devas said that as He was in his penance, there is no way for a son to be born to Him so they had approached Manmadhan to help and it was not his fault. By then Rathi also woke up and started wailing on seeing the ashes of her burnt husband. Taking pity on her, Shiva said that Manmadhan will re-join her the day He marries Parvathi. Shiva went back to his penance and the Devas disbursed.
The arrow from Manmadhan missed Shiva and went on to hit Paravathi who was meditating all day. This made her to think of getting married to Shiva more and more. The devotion and thoughts of Parvathi, started to have its effect on Shiva and so he quit his penance and can down to earth.
Parvathi was in her garden as usual going about with her chores. An old man turned up and asked her for some help. After that he asked her what she is doing in that garden alone. She said that she was meditating to Shiva and wanted to get married to Him. The old man laughed and said why of all she wants to get married to a man with ashes rubbed all over his body and a snake around his neck. Hearing this Parvathi got angry and asked the old man to leave before she says something wrong about him. Feeling pity on her, the old man showed His actual self...it was the Lord Himself. Parvathi felt so happy that she ran into the palace.
Shiva sent the rishis to seek for the hand of Parvathi to king Parvath, who was rejoiced on hearing this. All arrangements were made in full swing and on the auspicious day Shiva married Parvathi. Manmadhan was brought back to life and he joined with Rathi.
