Everyone where eagerly waiting for the words from Vishnu. Vishnu advised that Manmadhan (God of Love) has to disturb the penance of Lord Shiva so that He marries Parvathi. On hearing this Kaaman (Mannadhan) started to shiver. He feared that Shiva will destroy him the minute he shoots an arrow from his bow of love. His wife Rathi started crying and asked him not to do so. The Devas were frustrated that their only way out was not being carried out. Brahma said He will curse Kaaman if he does not do as asked. Other Devas also wanted to follow Him. Knowing that he had no choice, Kaaman agreed to go saying that it would be of greater glory to get destroyed by Shiva than to get cursed by Devas.
Manmadhan along with Rathi started for Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. All along the way he shot his arrow of love but as he neared Kailash he found that his arrows were not having an effect. He pondered awhile for a reason and then realized that Nandhi the vehicle of Lord Shiva and guard of Kailash was preventing him from carrying out his task. So Kaaman and Rathi bowed before Nandhi and asked him to favour the cause of Devas. Nandhi advised him not to fear as this will bring him glory in the days to come.

Story of Kurinchi Kadavul -- Chapter One (Devas in Distress)
(கச்யப) Kachyapa was a saint. He and his wife, Maya, had three children named Suurabathman, lion faced Chimmalakthrathan and Tharakasuran. Three of them were asuras, who wanted to rule the universe. They prayed to Lord Shiva and got a boon that they can be killed only by a son born to him. They were of the opinion that Lord Shiva will never harm them as they are His devotees -- what many of us always think, taking things for granted.
With the boon on their side, they set out to conquer the three worlds with their mighty armies. One after the other all the Devas fell and were taken as captives. Suurabathman subjected them to do task which he liked rather than their regular one. Surya, the sun God, was asked not to scorch their country during His daily travel, instead to be very gentle while crossing their kingdom. Vaayu, the wind God was asked to blow gently along their streets. All got a task in the asuras kingdom.
After some time, they decided to seek Brahma's help and so went to him to narrate their sorry plight. Bramha was moved by their sorry state and took them to Vishnu for help. Vishnu said that He can't do anything as the asuras have a boon by which only Shiva's son can destroy them. He advised them to pray to Lord Shiva for an end to their perils.
On hearing the prayers of the Devas, Lord Shiva appeared before them. After listening to their miseries, he said that soon a son called Kandhan will be born to destory the asuras. Saying so he vanished.
Lord Vishnu reminded Devas that this was not possible as Goddess Parvathi was then born as daughter of Parvath maharaj and Lord Shiva transforming himself as Dhakhsinaamirthy, the Guru Bhavan -- Lord of Knowledge, was teaching to the sons of Brahma. On hearing this the Devas turned sad again and asked Vishnu if there was a way out. For which the Preserver smiled and said there is a way....
